A tent in Georgetown
Das Ethiopian Cuisine takes its name from the Amharic word for "tent" — a place where people come together. Since 2011, that idea has lived at the corner of 28th and M Street NW in Georgetown.
How Das Ethiopian Cuisine began
Sileshi Alifom was born in Addis Ababa and spent decades in senior hotel management with Marriott before opening Das Ethiopian Cuisine in 2011 alongside his wife, Elizabeth Wossen. That hospitality background — exacting, guest-centered — shaped every decision about how the restaurant would feel.
Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana has also visited the restaurant, adding another iconic name to its list of notable guests.
Eating from one plate
Meals arrive on a shared platter of injera — the spongy teff flatbread that doubles as utensil and table — surrounded by stews meant to be eaten together.

Recognition, earned quietly
Our culinary excellence has been recognized by the Michelin Guide for years. We earned the prestigious Bib Gourmand distinction in 2019 and 2021 and have proudly been a Michelin-recommended restaurant since 2017, including recognition in the 2025 Michelin Guide.
